CBC decided to show curling instead of showing a Senators IN OTTAWA! Typical. You can bet this would NEVER happen in Toronto for a leafs game! Good thing for the live stream, but I would rather be watching it in HD on CBC. Why am I paying tax dollars for this horrible service again? hate those jerks.......
First period. The period started off slowly enough. Pittsburgh really didn't do much this period, and outside of their top line, couldn't muster any sustained pressure. Ottawa definitely gave a good account of themselves and almost potted a goal on a nice play by Jesse Winchester. He drew Dany Sabourin out of the net, then tossed it into the slot but no one could get a stick on it. Overall, Ottawa had more sustained pressure, bigger hits and more penetration on the inside. Edge: Ottawa
Second period. Jason Spezza scored 3 goals, took a huge hit, and looked great! Chris Neil fought with Eric Goddard but looked overpowered by his bigger adversary. It was a very exciting period as both sides traded chances and Pittsburgh woke up a bit when Jordan Staal scored on the power play. Ottawa's third line impressed with the consistent pressure, great puck control and cycling in Pittsburgh's zone. Edge: Ottawa
Third period. A brutal giveaway by Brendan Bell on a Senators' powerplay led to Evgeni Malkin scoring shorthanded for the Penguins. Anton Volchenkov took an awkward hit along the boards and had to leave the game. The Penguins really put the pressure on late in the third, but couldn't quite get good inside penetration on the defense. Edge: Pittsburgh
Bottom line.
Senators win 3-2!
