Game Day Today:
The Ottawa Senators at the Chicago Blackhawks
Pre-game Show: Team 1200 (starts at 6:30 pm)
As promised
Place in standings: 12th place (4 points back of 8th)
Senate's Note: The Senators are coming off an extremely disappointing effort against the Florida Panthers. That game aside, they are looking to turn the corner on this season, and hopefully a strong performance against the young talent of the Blackhawks is exactly what the doctor ordered. The Senators have found success against some tough competition this year, let's hope the trend continues. Apparently Martin Gerber gets the call tonight in a bit of a surprise move by Craig Hartsburg. Alex Auld had a relatively weak game last time out and Gerber has not seen action since a 2-1 loss to Carolina on November 7th. We knew it would come eventually but against the Blackhawks? couldn't you put him in against the Lightning?

The Blackhawks are coming off a relatively easy win in Phoenix on Sunday, and will be well rested as they have only played two games in the past 6 days prior to tonight's matchup. The Blackhawks have some top talent with five players having 20 points or more this season (Kane, Sharpe, Toews, Versteeg and Havlat). If the Senators can continue keeping the shots to the outside, clearing the rebounds, and cycling the puck effectively, they should be able to keep this game close.

Enjoying the coverage, from this perspective the Hawks look like the fastest team on the planet. #21 (on the PK) the ring around to disaster , the lack of quickness to persue & the early fall down draws Vermette down to score the goal; poor Gerbs... To top off the period, 21 gives Havlat the push forarm shiver to the throat that should have been called. I know Schub is gone but it's a mistake, we still need two defencemen.
Thank you ,for the streeming of the game, interesting listening to the Chicago announcers talk frankly about the Ottawa players. I now think we are getting out coached. You take your coldest player (coming off an injury) put him on the point of a half decent power play and leave him there game after game until he infects everyone else.(Einstein had a definition for repeating the same mistake). I don't think Hartsberg has to go but he has to change the behind the bench during the game. None of our coaches are very demonstrative, they seem to cosole each other, rather than demand an explanation from the ref... make him repeat himself. Yell @the Linesman for no reason (Let him know your there!). Gerbs is just a hard luck goalie for us (He played well enough to win tonight) It's time for us to heat up, for a couple of our 7 Center ice men (six exclude Spezza) to find some luck & score some goals. Finally, we showed tonight we can still skate & play with anyone in the league.
Thanks for the feedback! if Gerber didn't have bad luck, he wouldn't have any at all. He just can't seem to catch a break. IT is also quite unfortunate that all of our secondary scoring is in a slump at the same time, but maybe it is just a lack of skill, or a lack of the right type of players on the same line. Either way, we can be competitive, but not like we used to be.
