It didn't seem like much of a bargain when the Sens signed Auld, a journeyman netminder with an uneven track record, to a two-year deal worth $2 million in total this past offseason. But when Martin Gerber couldn't deliver the goods -- again -- the Sens turned to Auld, who has provided yeoman service in building a 9-6-4 record with a 2.06 GAA and .924 save percentage. He is one of the main reasons the Sens are in the playoff hunt and not languishing at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standingsSenate's Note: Great to see other people from around the league acknowledging the brilliant signing of Alex Auld. Brian Murray knew that we needed some consistent goaltending in Ottawa and brought in a man he thought capable of it. Hopefully Alex can continue his remarkable play and squeeze the Senators into the playoffs.
Topping the list is Tim Thomas of the Boston Bruins. His style of play leaves a lot to be desired but his numbers don't lie. He's undoubtedly one of the best bargains in the NHL right now, but come July 1st, you can bet that will change.
