[Wrap Up] Thursday December 18, 2008

Faceoff.com - Either Brian Murray is threatening a trade so the Senators pick up their play, or one is on the way! Here's hoping for the latter!

Angry and disappointed with the performance of the Ottawa Senators, general manager Bryan Murray says he's looking at ways to "shake up" the team. Murray has also talked to owner Eugene Melnyk, looking for ways to a move that makes sense financially.
TSN.ca - Adds more fuel to the trade speculation and a shot of confidence for Craig Hartsburg
but the bottom line is good players should be good players, unless they are playing hurt or unless they have reached a stage in their career where they are on a downward decline or whatever that may be," Murray said. "I don't think that is the case here. Certainly that's why we made commitments here to get continued improvement and results from them, and it is astounding that we don't score goals, in particular. We have that ability and that's not the coach, that's not the manager, that's not the teammate - that's the player doing, to their best of their ability, what they can do
Senate's Note: I doubt that a trade will happen before the christmas freeze, but if the slump continues, Brian Murray has an excellent Trigger finger so WATCH OUT! Also mentioned in the first article is the fact that the pizza line will be split up completely on three new lines. Quite a way to shake it up and spread thin an already anemic offense!

TheHockeyNews.com - A merry christmas from The Hockey News, and another call for Spezza to be traded! They are also calling the Vancouver Canucks "Canada's best chance at bringing home the cup".

Senate's Note: Well at least they didn't compliment the Leafs. Yeeesh!

The Laconic Senator - Pretty good article on the state of Ottawa's defense. Written by an old hockey buddy of mine who is just starting up his own website.

Senate's Note: While I do agree with some of his points (alleviating me from writing my own post on the Senators defence), I will disagree on the fact that "Chris Phillips cannot play top 2 on Ottawa". He may not be an offensive juggernaut, but would compliment an offensively gifted player very well. He has shown in the playoffs just how valuable he can be, and if he turns it around this season, I would suspect the Senators start to turn things around.

And thats the daily [Wrap Up]!
