The Daily Wrap Up - Monday January 19, 2009

Sportsnet.ca - Those nasty Jason Spezza rumours have been put to rest as Brian Murray has publicly stated that he is not on the trading block.
I don't know that you'd ever not trade anyone, but Jason is not on the trading block," Murray told Sportsnet prior to Saturday's home game against the Montreal Canadiens. "He is a guy that you should be able to build a hockey team around.

Either Brian Murray has been learning Eric Cartman's "You can't come to my amusement park" strategy to bolster Jason's trade value, or Jason is not leaving Ottawa. The latter would be preferable since he is only 25 years old and signed long term to a reasonable contract.

Canoe.ca - Martin Gerber got his first win of the season in the AHL this past weekend, making 43 saves in a 6-4 victory over the Wilkes-Barre Penguins
I wasn't really getting that much ice time up there. And, the way it's been, you know with three guys, we kind of figured it would probably be best to get down here and get some games in your legs and then see what happens,

We all know that Gerber is a class act and I'm happy that he got the win (as I dont think his confidence can take many more hits). He probably won't see any more game time this season with the Senators, but on the bright side, he is now one of the highest paid AHL players. Congrats.

BM better not trade Spezza. IMO he should be the only untouchable (well, maybe Alfie too for sentimental reasons).

Yeah I am in agreement with you on that one. Maybe Heater too, but THAT's it :)

This is a good site, with all the clips and stuff. Spezza's gotta stay. Heater... I like what he can do when he's on, but I think one of these two and maybe fisher and a couple d have to go for a real rebuild. I like Heatley, but I like Spezza more for building the team around in the future. Can you imagine what we could get for Heatley? Think Philly and Forsberg and how quickly they turned that ship around. And we could likely get more for Heater. Anyway, I just want to see a team on the rise soon, instead of a team on the decline.

yeah I would have to say that if the choice was between spezza and heatley, i'd go with spezza.
