the Daily Wrap Up - Thursday January 29, 2009

TSN.ca - Chris Neil landed on Darren Dreger's "10 payer's to watch at the trade deadline" list.
Ottawa forward Chris Neil balances a measure of skill and toughness many teams are seeking. Neil is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in July and the senators may not have the cap space to re-sign him.
Great! He should be worth a good amount come trade deadline, so that will help with the rebuild.  I hope that Brian Murray and Eugene Melnyk finally allow for the rebuild, and we can start by shipping off Chris Neil and his staggering six points.  He has seen a huge decline in his production from a career high of 33 points, in 2005-06.  Many fans still love him and his fights, but realistically I would rather have a skilled guy in for him as many of his fights are pre-meditated affairs and are not as a result of defending his teammates.

and that's the daily wrap up!

yes Chris Neil could be re-signed, but with his dwindling offensive numbers, is her worth having on the roster? I think that the game that Georges Laraque played against Boston early in the season really showed me that an enforecer is really only effective if the opposing players agree to fight him.

If not they skate around and collect minimal points.

Neiler played himself out of Ottawa last year, too many bad penalties (not fighting) at the wrong times, very little offencive production. He no longer "fits" our pay scale. The Montreal "rumour" didn't come out of the French Press (Je t'aime,Georges! Them and me.)but from the inside (a trial balloon maybe?). Chris has multiple suiters and will get Laraque type money (1.6M). Years ago (Original Six - 108 jobs) 30 years old/lose half a step; you were lucky to get one more year in the American League.
