The Daily Wrap Up - Thursday January 8, 2009

Radio-Canada.ca - Reporting that Pat Quinn and Bob Nicholson (of Hockey Canada) might be brought in to replace Craig Hartsburg and Brian Murray.
While I dislike listening to conjecture and speculation with regards to the Senators, you cannot ignore the fact that the team is in a tailspin and this season is beginning to look like a train wreck.  The reason I am interested in this particular rumour is the fact that Eugene Melnyk is a very "hands on" type of owner who likes to be in the media, and in control of his team.  He has also come out in December stating that the Senators would turn it around and finish in the playoffs.  It would not surprise me if a change was made to the front office of the team, given his huge ego.

Associated Press - The NHL is looking into disciplining Jarkko Ruutu after biting Andrew Peters of the Buffalo Sabres.
NHL spokesman Frank Brown says in an e-mail Wednesday that the league reviews everything and added if a suspension is warranted it would be announced before the Senators game at Boston on Thursday.
I wonder if Ruutu was watching the WJC gold medal game and got inspired when Thomas Hickey had his finger bitten? Not only did Ruutu bite Peters finger, but Peters also got an unsportsmanlike conduct on the play.  Overall Ruutu is a more obnoxious pest than anticipated, and a great asset to the Senators.

UPDATE:  I wrote this before the 2 game suspension was handed down.

And that's the daily wrap up!
