The Daily Wrap Up - Tuesday January 20, 2009

Happy inauguration day!

Today also happens to be a Senators game day!

Canoe.ca - Spezza left practice early yesterday with back pain.

The Senators centre was troubled by a sore back that was bothering before practice today. He decided not to take any chances, considering the team has just one game before the NHL all-star break, Tuesday against the Washington Capitals at Scotiabank Place.

Spezza has a history of back problems, but they generally clear up fairly quickly. I would agree with his assessment and think him very likely to be in the lineup for tomorrow. Don't be surprised though if he doesn't play the entire game, or has his minutes reduced. Backs can get tweaked very easily, and I remember a time when Spezza injured his by getting out of a car after a fun day of shopping.

SportingNews.com - The NHL power polls are out, and the Senators see no change in their status. They remain at a solid 28.

28. Ottawa Senators (28): Give Martin Gerber credit about how he's handling his assignment in the AHL. No public griping and he made 43 saves in his first game with Binghamton.

Not quite as good as 27, but definitely better than 29. That's all the insight I have on that gem, great wasn't it?

Fewer than 250 tickets remain for the game tonight, so if you want to go, better hurry up!

And that's the daily wrap up!

I honestly don't think the sens should be quite so low. As much as I'd like to see them land a lottery pick, I just don't see them finishing in the bottom five. Unless we move quite a few guys at the deadline and tank the rest of the season as a result of a young, rebuilding team.

I believe we will miss the playoffs but land in the 10-12 range. Not low enough for Tavares, but with the depth of this years draft, it does not really matter as much!
