The Daily Wrap Up - Monday February 16, 2009

What a great week! Ottawa obtained 6 out of a possible 6 points, and recorded the biggest comeback of the season against the Minnesota Wild.

The upcoming week is a busy one for the team, which is great if you have some free time on your hands.

Monday at Nsh - 8:00 pm
TV: TSN
Tuesday at Col - 9:30 pm
TV: RSN, ALT
Thursday vs Van - 7:30 pm
TV: RSW, RSN
Saturday at Mon - 3:00 pm
TV: CBC, NHLN

I'm sure my cohorts over at Sens Army are pretty excited for Saturday's matchup as it finally gives the Senators a chance to get in on their No Habs No campaign.

Sportingnews.com - The NHL is going to open the season with four teams in Europe and the Senators are not one of the teams.  This is great news, as we wasted a home game this year in Sweden.  It is not the reason for this year's lack of success, but I would imagine opening the season in NA would be less draining than doing it in Europe.

TheFourthPeriod.com - Contract talks are heating up for Chris Neil.
Senators GM Bryan Murray confirmed that he's held talks with Neil's agent, Todd Reynolds, about a contract extension, but the sides aren't close to a new deal.
There is a pretty tight timeline for negotiations, and if he remains unsigned come trade deadline, he will be moved.  Brian Murray cannot afford to let an asset walk for nothing and he is not in any position to gamble anymore after he lost his shirt on a couple of them.  I would only want Chris back at a slightly reduced rate, or not at all.  His offensive production has been in decline the past two seasons.

Now time for the Brian Elliott watch:

Andy:

Interesting forcast - games and people.

Next two games are important but the Nucks & Habs will dictate the future to GM/BM.

Chris Neil seeled his fate last year. Good guy, good team man, good value at 1.3M just not for us. I wonder what Dan Bylsma thinks of Neiler?

The problem: "Kuba" I say he stays till the summer, he was not ours to start with and we may want his services in the future.

Brian Elliott, the "Pet" project and he should be gets nothing but "Gimmies" if I am his GM. Both Brian and Cory have had luck stretching him to this point back, if damage is incurred they shall recieve the rath of a good idea (stategy) scorned. I shall be on them like "Ten Guys".

Tonight I shall streem and tape, no changing the luck!
