Game 22: Post Game Thoughts

First off I will offer a recommendation on how to deal with the terrible NYI announcers: mute the live stream and load up the team1200 audio feed to keep up with the play by play. This will allow hockey fans to bypass the announcers spending the vast majority (no exaggeration) of the game talking about non-insightful NYI-centric garbage.

Vermette and Fisher had solid penalty killing midgame preventing any shots on two consecutive powerplays while producing two scoring chances on four shots. Senators’ big line at the end of the game was strong, cycling the puck deep keeping the Islanders clustered in front of their net as usual.

However the flow of the Senators was off, reflecting the Sens’ lack of ability to synchronize players within their system. Dump and chases, break out passes and organized pressure was once again lacking, creating a reliance on lucky bounces and low percentage/individual plays. Unfortunately Ottawa’s poor play wasn’t enough to overcome the equally ineffective NYI performance.

At least the ‘memorable’ commentary provided two interesting comments:

1) “There must be a shortage of good gloves in Ottawa” joke made 3 times over a 15 minute span regarding one of Ruutu’s plays.

2) “I somewhat agree with the, uh, well I, uh, agree with the call” in reference to Zach Smith’s hit on Meyer in the final two minutes of the 3rd.
