Prospect Update: Louie Caporusso

Over at NHL Fanhouse, they just ran a small update on Ottawa prospect Louie Caporusso.  His vitals on the left are courtesy of Hockeys Future.

Projected as a speedy second line forward, Louie is starting to breakout in the NCAA this year.  With the departure of some formidable players (Porter, Kolarik and Pacioretty) from the Michigan Wolverines, Louie has started to step up and put up some decent numbers.  Already matching last seasons point production at only the halfway mark of this season, he is putting up better than a point per game (14g 7a 21p in 18 games).  As a comparison, Max pacioretty (highly touted Montreal pospect) put up only 39 points in 37 games last year.  They play completely different styles, but it is good to see how he can stack up against other top prospects.

His size could hold him back but according to The Blog That Yost Built (who follows the NCAA and the Wolverines):

The sky really is the limit for that kid. He's already proven to be quite the scorer, and now they've got him playing with one of the best passers in the game in Aaron Palushaj. I don't think it's a fluke that he's putting up the numbers that he has in the first half this year. He realized he needs to shoot the puck more, and our offense is benefitting because of it. And he's still got a knack for big goals late in games. He popped in the game winner against MSU Saturday night with just a couple minutes left in regulation.
He is still a few years away from really making a push for a spot on the Senators, but until then, hopefully his keeps progressing in the NCAA and fulfills his potential.

Good to see some updates on the prospects. Nice. It's nice that you stream the games, btw.

I've seen this kid play and he's NHL material. Why does everyone comment on his size. He's not any smaller than Patrick Kane first draft choice and no smaller than Cogliano or Cammileri so whats with the size. Do we want to watch the finess of hockey or do we want to see some big lug who can't even skate prancing around the ice fighting. This kid has got skills and he's tough.
