Tuesday Morning Wrap-Up

Nice to see the Senators climbing up The Sporting News and Sportsnet power rankings.  They went from 26th to 22nd, on The Sporting News rankings and from 26th to 23rd on the Sportsnet rankings.  The San Jose Sharks sit atop the rankings, no big surprise there.

Senate's Note: While it is nice to see the Senators out of the basement of power rankings, they still have a long way to go before they can be considered playoff contenders! Take it with a grain of salt and realize that they had a really good week. Until they string together a few weeks of good play, I wouldn't get too excited just yet.

Great news for Jason Spezza, as he was named the NHL's third star of the week.  He contributed four goals in that time and helped the Senators win their two contests.

Senate's Note: Nice to see something positive for Jason Spezza in the news for once! He's been hit hard by unwarranted criticism this year so maybe this will silence his critics?.......maybe not.

Update 8:15 AM

The Ottawa Citizen has post game coverage, along with some non-news on Jay Bouwmeester.  The Ottawa Sun ( scary looking sunshine girl) has a small article on the NHL board of governors meeting and some post game coverage.

Senate's Note:  We don't like to comment on trade rumours, but Jay Bouwmeester is a UFA at the end of the season, has Jacques Martin for a general manager, and a nice snow free winter ahead of him.  The reason all these trade talks ignited was the trouble Florida had signing Jay to a long term deal.  Apparently he was unhappy with the way the organization was heading.  Now If that was the only reason, then bringing in Peter DeBoer should help as Florida has been more stable and consistent with him behind the bench.  Jacques Martin has also filled out the defense and found two capable goalies.  The possibility Jay will stick around in Florida is the only reason he has not been traded yet, so it's still up in the air as to whether he truly is available or not.
